A Short Commentary on Emerging Evidence on Monkeypox: Resurgence, Global Burden, Molecular Insights, Genomics and Possible Management

Chien-Yuan Huang, Shih-Bin Su, Kow-Tong Chen

Human monkeypox is an emerging zoonotic disease. The etiology of this disease is a double-stranded DNA virus classified into the genus Orthopoxvirus and the family Poxviridae. In 2022, outbreaks of monkeypox virus infection occurred in several nonendemic countries and caused a potential threat to humans. It is urgent to take immediate action to control and prevent the outbreak of the monkeypox virus infection. This paper highlights the need for further research on molecular mechanisms of pathophysiological reactions and control strategies for monkeypox disease are crucial.
