Xylomannan is a polysaccharide isolated from many organisms: basidiomycetes, red and green algae and several species of beetles. It has different structures and properties such as immunomodulation, antitumor and antiviral activities. However, in some species (Upis ceramboides andFlammulina velutipes)it performs an unexpected function and works like an antifreeze agent. In our laboratory, xylomannan (ХМ) was first isolated from the total alkali-soluble polysaccharide fraction of Ganoderma lucidummycelium.
