Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a retrovirus that has become a global health crisis, affecting millions of people worldwide. This virus targets the immune system, particularly CD4+ T cells, leading to the gradual deterioration of the host's immune function. HIV is primarily transmitted through unprotected sexual intercourse, sharing of contaminated needles, or from mother to child during childbirth or breastfeeding. Once infected, individuals can progress through various stages, from acute infection to chronic HIV, and ultimately to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a condition characterized by severe immunosuppression and susceptibility to opportunistic infections.

Scientific advancements have led to the development of antiretroviral therapy (ART), which, when administered consistently and effectively, can suppress viral replication, preserve immune function, and extend the lifespan of HIVpositive individuals.
