A hamster was put into a 0.5 m diameter treadmill apparatus. Decreasing environmental temperature by 5 degrees (30-25°C) had motivated the subject to walk as far as 5019 m for 2 hr 55 min (8:57-11:52) and resulted in a decrease in body weight of 3.03 grams (27.45-24.42 g). We found also that lower environmental temperatures are better for motivating the subject for activity than higher temperatures. These results shown that decreasing environmental temperature could be a useful technique to motivate a treadmill exercise in decreasing body weight for an obesity case.
