Metal-on-metal hip implants have raised concerns regarding the release of metal ions into the bloodstream and associated complications. Monitoring metal ion levels in patients with MoM hips is crucial for early detection of implantrelated issues. Two common sample types used for metal ion measurement are plasma and whole blood. This article explores the interchangeability of plasma and whole blood metal ion measurement and their significance in monitoring patients with MoM hip implants.
