The role of cannabis-based medications in managing opioid epidemics: translating evidence for policy makers

Farhang Modaresi

Objective: The main objective of this presentation is to translate the scarce available clinical data about medical cannabis into more tangible information for policy makers (cost saving, impact of absenteeism, productivity loss) in order to convince them to allocate more resources toward research on CBMs. It can also give a new perspective to clinicians who are interested in commercializing their research results because unmet clinical needs will be addressed in the presentation. Methodology: the data on cost-effectiveness and societal impact of prescription opioids and opioid substitution treatments will be added to data about the efficacy of CBMs in controlling chronic pain to build a case for more resource allocation
