Imaging methods are fundamental for the management of patients with breast cancer, especially in the early diagnosis of non-palpable breast lesions. Suspicious lesions identified in imaging studies of the breast should undergo percutaneous biopsy to confirm the diagnosis and plan appropriate treatment. Several procedures can be used, such as fine needle aspiration (FNA) and core needle or vaccum-assisted biopsy. The objective of this study is to review the main indications and limitations of each procedure to know what should be indicated for each type of lesion, with emphasis on ultrasound-guided FNAB, detailing its technique and imaging findings.
